Work: Fashion Photography
Roots in Nightlife
Brought up in the medival city of Gelnhausen, from where the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick “Barbarossa” ruled his lands in the 12th century, Alexander Palacios started his career in Frankfurt/Main. He made his living by capturing images from clubs like Sven Väths’ Cocoon Club.
But there was more to come!
Palacios’ works quickly progressed from party photography to pictures with an editorial edge to it. Consequently, he made plans to leave Germany’s financial centre to enter the fashion world. “To further develop, I had to move”, he remembers in an interview once published in the art section of a newspaper.
Actually, he thought about leaving for Dubai but ended up hiring an apartment in Basel/Switzerland. “I wanted to stay close to my family and friends”, he explains. “Though I’m travelling around the world today, I try my best to be in Germany as often as possible. I’m still deeply rooted in Gelnhausen. And it is important to know where you come from. Especially when you work in an industry like the fashion industry.”
Shootings at Dream Locations
And indeed: Palacios spends a lot of time working at events like the Berlin Fashion Week or taking models to interesting locations for innovative shootings. From New York Time Square to the deserts of Africa he created an impressive body of work.
During the last weeks he worked in Paris, Dubai and Cape Town. In South Africa he created the series “Cape Spirit” which brings together fashion, sunny landscapes, the sea and horses.
Toni Garrn & Lily Cole
Palacios has photographed aspiring models of our time like Toni Garrn or Lily Cole. “But I’m not merely interested in superficial beauty”, he mentions, “what I wanna see is the person behind make-up and couture.”
Artist with a Camera
Consequently Alexander Palacios’ pictures are more then impressions from the international fashion weeks. Like a painter, he portrays his models in a way showing their inner beauty and specific personality as well.
His pictures are today seen in Magazines like Vogue, Elle or Harper’s Bazaar or in publications of the German Burda-Group. From now on, BradSticks will follow his work steadily. And that’s just fabulous!
